Arthrosamid aftercare

Your recovery, one step at a time.

The core approach:

  • Rest initially to let the knee settle.
  • Build activity gradually back into your routine.
  • Review your progress at around six weeks.

Treatment day

Leave with a clear plan.

Your outpatient appointment focuses on the injection itself. Afterwards, the priority is keeping the knee quiet and clean.

  • Written aftercare instructions
  • Your clinic contact details
  • Keep the injection site clean
  • Follow medicines agreed with your clinician

Desk work may be possible earlier than work involving standing, kneeling, lifting, climbing or driving. Return to sport depends on your knee, baseline function and any other diagnosis.

When to get advice

Mild temporary discomfort, stiffness or swelling can occur. Reduce load and follow your written advice while it settles. Contact the team for increasing symptoms, including:

  • Worsening severe pain or progressive swelling
  • A hot or red knee
  • Any discharge from the injection site
  • Fever, chills or generally feeling unwell

Severe or rapidly worsening symptoms need urgent same-day assessment.

A FEW PRACTICAL ANSWERS

Common aftercare
questions.

Is mild swelling normal?
Some mild, temporary discomfort or minor swelling can occur as the knee settles. Worsening pain, heat, redness or swelling needs advice from your treating team.
When can I resume other medications?
Continue your usual prescribed medicines unless instructed otherwise by your clinician during your consultation or on treatment day.
Do I need physiotherapy?
Physiotherapy may be recommended as part of your longer-term rehabilitation to help strengthen the knee once initial symptoms have settled.
Can I walk after an Arthrosamid injection?

Essential gentle walking is normally possible, but follow the instructions provided on the day. The published cohort protocol advised rest for the first 24 hours and avoiding strenuous activity for 72 hours.

When can I exercise after Arthrosamid?

Avoid strenuous activity for the first 72 hours, then increase activity gradually if pain and swelling are settling. Return to strengthening, impact exercise and sport should follow the plan agreed for your knee.

When should Arthrosamid start working?

Improvement is not necessarily immediate and may develop over the following weeks. The clinic uses a six-week review to assess the early response. Published group outcomes do not predict the onset, size or duration of an individual response.

Is a flare after Arthrosamid normal?

Temporary pain, stiffness or swelling can occur. A mild flare should trend towards settling. Increasing pain, heat, redness or swelling—especially with fever, chills or feeling unwell—needs prompt medical advice.

Can I drive after the injection?

Do not drive until you can enter and leave the vehicle safely, control it fully, make an emergency stop and are not impaired by pain or medication.
